The user seemed to see less need for the feature after it was explained that this feature does not help against adversaries who also receive that message, because they can always retain it despite the self-destruct timer. Most users might not know that and get a false sense of security from such a feature. However, testers still found it nice to be able to let messages delete automatically in case they are forced to enter their password or somebody gets hold of their phone unlocked.Self-destructing messages2021-01-31https://code.briarproject.org/briar/website/-/issues/24Add RSS feed to briarproject.org/news2020-11-19T10:09:13ZbafoobarAdd RSS feed to briarproject.org/newsIt would be nice to be able to receive news from briarproject.org via briar itself using the RSS component. :)

We need to think about how to handle this safely: hyperlinks can be used to identify forum subscribers ("barium"), or to spread malware.
A warning dialog could be shown before opening a hyperlink from an unknown source, but users would probably learn to ignore it. Perhaps hyperlinks should be allowed in private messages but scrubbed from forum posts?https://code.briarproject.org/briar/briar-desktop/-/issues/326Missing indication if Tor/Internet is connected2024-01-02T11:33:57ZmicressorMissing indication if Tor/Internet is connectedIt would be helpful to have a status indication that briar desktop has a connection to Tor.

A separate data directory can be specified already, the only thing preventing this is the hardcoded tor port (no two apps can listen on the same port). Let's see if we can make the Tor port configurable in upstream briar. I already solved this for [briar-swing here](https://code.briarproject.org/sebkur/briar-swing/-/commit/baa4d22d4011ee9b570301435a71d266ebcf11ab). It could be done that way, or a bit differently, but I think making the tor port configurable is something useful.Desktop 0.1.0SebastianSebastianhttps://code.briarproject.org/briar/briar/-/issues/1850Import Blog RSS Feed from hidden service (.onion address)2022-04-18T11:59:44ZMarcin OssowskiImport Blog RSS Feed from hidden service (.onion address)Hi!

This depends on #783, and then requires getting a build description added to f-droid's configuration.

I just built and installed Briar after being absent for a while. I see there's a preference for using tor never, on wifi, and on cellular. That's great for some, but doesn't address my problem. I realize there is tension with UX and complicated config, but given that having a HS is very very costly power wise, and outbound tor is somewhat costly, I'd like to see a config for "Use Tor when not charging" that is "no, outbound only, outbound and inbound". This would probably let me start running briar, and I suspect would let others do so as well.Android 1.1Torsten GroteTorsten Grotehttps://code.briarproject.org/briar/briar/-/issues/429Explain that QR codes can not be scanned remotely2018-06-12T11:32:26ZTorsten GroteExplain that QR codes can not be scanned remotelyAlmost all people that I showed Briar to asked my to post my QR code into another chat app or to go into a WebRTC room to show my QR code in a webcam.
